Who would be interested in forming a support group near the central NJ area?  Anyone?  has anyone else tried to form a support group?  I feel so alone that I think it would be healthy to just meet a few people to discuss anonymously.

If you search for NAMI in the US, you will likely find a local support group for the families of those with mental illness.  They are not usually specific to BPD.  I am in an urban area, and there was one within walking distance.

AFTER A LIFETIME OF LIVING IN OZ ... I found NAMI - National Alliance on Mental Illness - They have local chapters all over the US. I am part of a NAMI support group for people who are affected by all kinds of Mental Illness. These people GET IT. There are people in the group who live with all kinds of severe mental illness and they say BPD would be worse and is harder to live with. NAMI has a free 12 week course called Family to Family that covers every mental illness and provided huge insight for me.  After living in OZ and trying to get the family to see the truth for too long, this course and their support gave me the insight and the strength to get out of OZ and to not be recycled any more!

For local support in the Danbury, CT area, my wife runs a Family Connections group every Monday evening. This group has been a life saver for many folks who have loved ones with BPD. Please contact me if you'd like contact info.

I haven't been on the boards for a few weeks. Things are clamer for the moment. However, I've been to a support group, the second meeting for me was last night, and I must say it is extremely helpful to be around others who have loved ones with BPD. Learning how to deal with BPD's and protecting ourselves are the key. If you don't have a support group in your area, start one. That face to face talk, with several others, really helps. My situation is better, however, I do realize that can change in a moment. I need to understand that my daughter can't help herself, but I can learn how to deal with her BPD and in doing this, I am protecting myself.

Looking for a local support group in the Syracuse, NY area.  I tried meetup.com with no luck.  Anyone know of one, or interested in starting one with me?  I'm going through a very rough time right now and could really use the support.

Anyone in upstate NY want to start a support group?  I am in the Syracuse area but am willing to travel, as far as Auburn, Utica, Watertown, or even Rochester or Binghamton if there is an interest.  I am trying to work on things myself, but it is so hard, and I could really use the structure and the in-person support of a group.

So far, I can't find anything in Charlotte area. How would you go about starting one and I'm not sure how to facilitate this type of group, either. Any suggestions?

You may try looking up your local NAMI chapter for meetings in your area or Meetup.com.

does anyone know a good website to look at in order to find a support group in my area?  eerily i find comfort in talking about the experience of this BPDgf and hearing that the episodes and outburst are not just happening to me.

Some members have posted over the years about such groups, but they seem kind of few and far between--urban areas mostly, as I recall.

You might want to call a local mental health center or hospital and ask.  That's how I found my T, and she's been great.  Good luck, and let us know what you find.

Have the Moderators, Advisors, and Ambassadors here ever thought of holding a conference with members invited?  I know that confidentiality here is very important and maybe it wouldn't be appropriate.  Just curious.

You are right because of confidentiality reasons, a conference would not be possible.  However, there may be local support in your area to pursue, as discussed in this thread.
