http://www.meehlfoundation.org/

I am looking for the one last ditch effort to get her to seek help if for no other reason for our children and future grandchildren.  I talked to the people at the foundation and they listed everything I expected (she has to want to do it) and have an 87% success rate, not cured never an issue but success meaning that the person comes out knowing a little more of the gray world and how to communicate without living in the black and white only.  I know when I sit her down and truly lay this idea out in front of her it could blow up but that is not new maybe this time it is worth it if I am lucky.  If not at least I get to think I tried almost everything I could?

Not sure if anyone has any experience with this group or one like it I am interested they only take 4 - 5 patience at a time and it is for 90 days no exceptions, but the BDP has to make the conscience decision to enroll it is about $9K a month for 3 months, still cheaper than the alternative which is a divorce at this point. ?

I am considering The Meehl Foundation in Texas for my 29 year old daughter.  Does anyone have any info on this facility or know where i can find out about the facility.  It is small - 4 residents.  Or can you recommend a different facility that is affordable?  Thanks for your assistance.

Some possibilities to check on this facility could be:

Checking with your therapist on recommendations for residential treatment.

Checking with the local chapter of the APA for credentials on residential treatments centers.

Checking the resource page in website links here  for people with BPD Resources for BPD Sufferers.  Those websites connections may have evaluations and personal accounts of particular treatment centers.

I hope this helps a little with your question and it sounds like a big decision.  If you find out anymore useful information on this facility please let us know.

Don't waste your money on the Meehl Foundation. I was a resident there for 3 months. They falsely advertise so many things I don't know where to begin. On the website under program residency they give a list what what it "includes"...While DBT works because it's COMMON SENSE meaning when you're in crisis mode you obviously shouldn't do drugs, say negative things about yourself, etc.. That is basically what it covers, I could go into it more but like I said it's pretty much common sense. They use "gardening and horticulture therapy" as a fancy term for YARDWORK. There is no "art therapy" because there is no "art therapist", they have art supplies...and a mandala coloring book and that is their version of "art therapy". There is no "nutrition counseling" as they do not have a nutritionist on board, though their cook/driver claims she does nutrition counseling...her degree is in baking. You will be on a low sugar diet but there is not by any means "nutrition counseling". The assistant(the cook/driver) who works out with the clients tells the people at the gym that the people she is with are "sick" and she has to keep an eye on them. I did not get acupuncture treatments or massage therapy the whole time I was there. They never did the hair follicle mineral/vitamin testing(and I'm not just talking about me on all this stuff). They didn't do any "career counseling" either. The only client who got acupuncture kissed their ass, who was also very unstable, and she now works there. Any rehab facility you go to will be expensive, and this being one of the cheap ones, you definitely get what you pay for. The councilors there are terrible, the addiction councilor smokes on site, and openly admits she was terminated from a nursing job for stealing narcotics, she brings her problems to work and takes it out on the clients. She's the most unprofessional councilor I've ever met, and is extremely rude. They make you do all their house chores and never help out(except for the rare occasion they help out with doing the dishes...). The clients shouldn't have to do housework and their philosophy is "it teaches them life skills", which is basically their excuse for being lazy. Debra Meehl just sits on her throne all day and doesn't lift a finger. They never did hypnosis like their site claims. The cook/driver doesn't even cook and when she does it tastes horrible. As much money as you're paying to stay here you'd think that they would buy high quality food, and they get their food from Walmart. They treated me and other residents like we're incompetent, the chef/driver made fun of some of the residents. The day mainly consists of homework, doing workbooks pretty much all day. When you stay there, if you say anything negative about them to the other residents, they'll lecture you on why you shouldn't do that because it "interferes" with their treatment, then they'll tell whoever you talked to that you're sick and the only person you need to talk to is them. And if you do ANYTHING against their program/house rules they punish you by taking your "privileges" away, which is talking on the phone once a week for 30 minutes after 30 days, or going to rent movies with them. They make the neighborhood they live in sound very scenic, it looks very depressing and there is a prison a couple miles down the road. They probably don't let you talk on the phone for so long because they don't want you to sell them out on their poorly ran program, and depressing environment. I was miserable the whole time I was there, and I wasn't the only one. If you listen to them talk on the phone with potential clients they'll embellish details and make false claims, as their website does. Do yourself a favor and don't buy into their scam. I'm surprised they haven't been sued.

I was a client at the foundation for four months.  My husband will easily admit it saved my life.  In DBT we are only able to do what we can do, I learned the skills to save my own life ideally.  However without this program, the third I have been in, my life would not have changed!  We are taught the skills to manage stress, daily life, interpersonal activities, and more.  If we could use the everyday skills that everyone else uses, we wouldn't need help and on our own up the point we arrive to get help we have not figured out how to do it by ourselves.  Debra and her team teach us these techniques and so much more.

I am now an employee at the foundation, giving back what was given to me.  It really brings me joy to share my journey with others having been there.  While every story is never exactly the same, many are similar.
