Think About It...The basic premise of cognitive therapy is that the way we think about events in our lives (cognition) determines how we feel about them (emotions). ~ Jeffrey E. Young PH.D, Reinventing Your Life

This week, we found out my BPDbf has cancer :*( The treatment is going to be very aggressive and I know this is going to be an EXTREMELY long, difficult road. He has been very calm and positive and strong and I am in front of him...away from him is a whole other story! I am looking for possible book recomendations, anyone with any experience with this and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Its a tough road, no matter what and I am sorry to hear this.

I have had patients with BPD get seriously sick and please know that there IS help for him..emotional, mental, etc. His caregivers shold be looking at this holistically and getting him the help he needs to manage everything that is coming his way.

There are also cancer support groups for family members, so this is another resource.

Please keep us posted. I wish all the best for him in this rough journey.

Thank you Steph,  I will check into the support groups because I know how helpful that can be...not sure why this didn't occur to me.

I am sorry about this.  My previous wife died of cancer.  I don't know what to tell you because every cancer is very different.  Some are more aggressive than others.

I can only give you basic advice:
1. Make sure the cancer is staged correctly.  Some people are in such denial they will go to a different doctor just to get a lower stage.  If you do that you are just hurting yourself.

2. Work with an Oncologist.  This is a doctor that specializes in cancer and coordinates all treatment.

There are support groups also and you are going to need them.
