has this with my BPD ex and have had to fight it but have managed to keep my relationship with my children... .have people encountered it as a common feature where one parent is BPD or borderline tendencies?

Absolutely. It is how they fabricate a favorable comparison of themselves, to you, via the poison they feed the unsuspecting and innocent children. Read up about it and how to combat diplomatically. One thing that I have done is just to be consistent and get yourself as much time with the kids as is possible.

I think when one parent has BPD it's almost certain to happen, to some extent. (My experience with it is not very extreme.)
Check out ":)ivorce Poison" by Richard Warshak - practical ideas for dealing with it - different from what you usually read in the media.
