Is there anyone here that can say that their SO has recovered (after diagnosis + therapy + years)? The only story I seem to know is that one of Rapt Readers son...

If YOU don't change, things will stay the same

I guess most who have achieved a situation where BPD traits no longer feature have moved on and would prefer not to live in the past by remaining here.

My RS still has very much BPD traits present, but destructive / combative behavior within the household has virtually gone. The residual traits are mainly neediness, lack of basic functionality etc

Emeritus board member Steph.

She is a former psychiatric nurse, and her 7,000+ posts detail the struggles and recovery of her spouse, through 3 1/2 years of DBT therapy. Plus individual therapy for her.

She has described her spouse as high-functioning and without traits of other mental illnesses--but as certainly "BPD."

IRL I know a couple of women that have recovered.  My dBPDh is recovering and appears to be much more stable.  It will take a lot more time for me to be secure and think that the changes are going to stay.  He still has slips in his thinking but is getting better at addressing those more quickly.

I certainly wouldn't describe my r/s as "recovered"... .but we are well on the way.

It's been a while since anything truly "destructive" has gone on.  Now I would describe stuff as "bothersome".

I'm still working on getting better... and keeping the momentum going in the right way.

When a trait presents itself... .I try to keep focus on that... .and see how that can be addressed and moved to a better place.
