Learning about BPD at the start of a relationship

Hey there everyone, What a lovely forum to set up for people such as myself, looking to talk directly to others that have experience. I find just going through the internet symptoms, and negative threads can be very daunting.
So my story is simple really. I have been dating a totally amazing girl for the last three months and learning of her BPD (I had a little previous knowledge of it) I wanted to be proactive in really understanding and helping her through the tough times. I have first hand of mental health issues, suffering with depersonalization throughout my 20s, now however feel better than ever and feel I have a dash more empathy and patients on mental health issues.
So this is just my introduction really... Nice to see there is a policy against the whole "run while you can" I don't think anyone deserves that kind of attitude towards them.

Hello HalfAcre, and
It's great that you are supporting your gf by learning more about BPD. You may want to start with the lessons either in the right side-bar-->, or at the top of the board. Is she in treatment right now? If so, how is that going?

Hi HalfAcre,
I'm new here too, only recently started reading about BPD. I can really empathize with your situation. The main dynamic discussed on this forum seems to be between "nons" and "pwBPD" (I think that means "person with" but I can't be sure), which is not how I would view the dynamic I have with my SO. I came to this forum looking for tools to better myself, since I exhibit abnormal traits alongside my partner. Having to grapple with your partner's emotional dysregulation while also keeping yourself in check can be really hard. But it's also very uplifting to know it can be done!
So, welcome!

She is currently not in treatment, but I have briefly mentioned DBT as I've heard some great things and having a lot of success with CBT myself, I'd like to get her interested in the idea.

Yes, she was Diagnosed in her late teens (26 now). Haven't yet had to chance to properly speak to her about it, I don't want to come in all "I'm mr.helper, im going to fix you" but I will start encouraging it and explaining it very soon.

Ah... ok... it's good to have a diagnosis. Do you know anything about her treatment plan?
Why start encouraging it and explaining it? (I'm not sure I understand what it is)
