Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

Dad to my wolf pack

« on: October 16, 2015, 10:19:48 PM »

This is kind of silly.

Dropping him off at school today, S5 said that he was a kitty. Then he said a tiger. I asked what D3 was, and he said that she was a baby tiger. Then he said that I was a lion. He said that Mommy was a mommy tiger. Curious, I asked him what he thought [step-dad] was, and he paused, but said, "a daddy tiger." Then he added, "but you're a lion."

Good for you, son. That's an accurate assessment from a 5 year old's point-of-view. Not that I'm worried about being replaced in the eyes of the children, but it made my morning.
