Title: Ladies, is this common?
Post by: Fluff on October 27, 2014, 10:11:19 AM
I'm going through my FOO with my therapist which led me to ask my mother what her dating looked like when she were younger. She told me in her 20's it happened that she would break up because she was "too in love". Is this common among you and your friends or am I seeing more BPD traits in my mother?

Nope, not common as far as I am concerned, "too in love" sounds like she felt like she might be feeling engulfed and had to get out?

Nope, that is not common. I have never broken up with somebody because of being too in love. I am trying to think of the different reasons that my female friends have broken up and I don't think any of it had to do with "too in love".

Yes, I asked if she felt she was loosing her self, and she said it was so.

I've never known a woman who was too in love; women love love.  Someone who is feeling 'too in love' isn't feeling love, they're feeling intense emotions triggered by intimacy that they don't know how to deal with, so running becomes an option.  My ex responded to 'too in love' by needing to be in absolute control of the relationship and me, which wasn't love either.
