Title: Just a greeting
Post by: Tuismitheoir on March 15, 2021, 11:11:28 AM
I've just registered here, and this is my first post. My teen child exhibits some (not all) BPD symptoms, and we're at our wits end. We're looking (like everybody else) for tips.

My kids are 16, 17 and 20. The middle one exhibits BPD behaviors, though from what I've read, it's probably to early to diagnose officially?

What behaviors does your daughter exhibit? What have you tried so far?

Know you're not alone. It is so tough to navigate these waters but there is hope. Hang in there.

Welcome to the board!  You're in the right place.  The first thing that I always suggest is to take care of yourself first.  Living with loved ones with BPD is an emotional roller coaster and you are going to need some help.  This board is a good place to begin, but getting your own therapist is essential.  Make sure that the therapist has expertise in BPD.

It helps if you can give some specific information to respond to when asking for help.  What's going on that we can help you think about?  What questions do you have?  Is there a specific situation that is particularly difficult right now?

Hey, guys. Thanks for the replies.
We are already in a DBT program, but our daughter is extremely resistant (to the program).
Agreed that self care should be a priority. If we burn out or fall apart, we won't be able to help anybody. Having friends and a social circle is really important.
