Hi-

I'm Amanda and here for the first time. My fiancée was diagnosed w BPD 5 months ago. He had previously been incorrectly diagnosed w bipolar, but after a very stressful time in our relationship, he became self harming w suicidal thoughts and hospitalized. The doctors diagnosed him w BPD at that time and it seems obvious to both of us that it's the correct diagnosis. He's been seeking aggressive DBT treatment and courageously is on the road to recovery, but it's been very bumpy. i think my man is amazing for enduring such hardship and suffering, and still choosing to fight. I love him very much, but this has taken a huge toll on us and at times I'm uncertain of our future together. I'm here seeking support. I'm also planning to look for a support group via resources at his treatment center.

Hello Abrasher2000 and welcome to bpdfamily, I'm really glad you found us.

This is a great site for support, guidance and evidence based resources specifically focused on all things BPD.

The members are at all different stages in their lives and their relationships, there is always someone on hand who will be able to listen and share their experiences.

It's really good to hear your SO has a diagnosis and is in therapy now, I can hear that it has not been an easy route to the diagnosis for either of you. I would go on to ask if you are in therapy, but I can see this is something you have planned which is great. Support for you is something we actively encourage you to pursue on this site, in choosing to stay in a relationship with someone who has BPD means that we have to start with ourselves. Understanding our part in the dynamics of the relationship is crucial.

My h is dx with BPD and comorbid psychosis, and I have been here around 3 years. Came to the site in a state of chaos and am now in a place of stability. My h is just about to start DBT, tomorrow in fact, it has been a long journey.

Can you tell us a bit more about your story prior to the diagnosis, what sort of symptoms have you been dealing with? How long have you been with your fiancée ?
