Title: How ABA Therapy Is Going For S7
Post by: Turkish on August 30, 2017, 01:16:58 AM
Maybe good for him,  not so well for our family, split as it is.

He was diagnosed with ASD1 on December. Our HMO  (health maintenance organization,  a non profit health provider), referred us to The Easter Seals. They found a 3rd party provider to do the therapy. It's a $20/visit Co pay, which includes the ABA Therapy tech (5 evenings per week),  the supervisor (twice per month), the case manager (twice per month), and the case director once per month.  So far,  my ex owes me $500 up to the beginning of August,  but that's another issue.  Custody stipulation says that we split co-pays for medical.

In March we had our first T tech. Fired.  Then another M-W-F. Another T, Th. He was fired
Then another T, Th, but he resigned with no warning after two weeks "family issues.":

About that time,  the company "ombudsmen," I gathered, emailed asking for feedback on how the company helped clients.  I thought I'd field it rather than my ex.

We received a response from their CEO.

I've worked customer service for 30 years. 5 years in a cafe starting at 15, then on my current career in engineering service groups for three different companies, then here.  I couldn't believe the JADE response we got.  It wasn't even worth responding to.  I could admire this person for building the company from the ground up by herself, but given this,  and past employees' comments on Glassdoor, I'm not impressed.

The M-W-F tech cancelled my Friday session.  Yesterday I got a call from my ex.  She never showed up.  This morning,  after my ex emailed the case manager,  we were told the tech had resigned. So at this point: two firings, two resignations.

I did some research,  and ABA techs have a high turnover rate.  They don't get days off much,  and this company at least isn't merciful towards personal situations. At an average pay of  $18.50/hr, it's not a livable career where we reside in The Bay Area. At 45. I'm older than all of the people from this organization that I've met.

I know this is a rant.  Shortly: my friends haven't seen the kids since Christmas. We visited them for the eclipse.  They commented on how better behaved they were.  Partly due to the ABA, progression in age, and that their step-dad hasn't been living with them since Christmas. They've not been dealing with that conflict. I'm still not knowing when he's moving back in, and I haven't asked,  but S7 told me he was at some point. Cops will be involved at some point again I am sure,  but I'll deal with that when it comes.
