Title: BPD and munchhausen by proxy Post by: sisi on January 04, 2013, 09:35:29 AM have any of your BPD parents also made up illnesses that you supposedly had, so that they can get attention from medical personel and come off as the perfect parent?
Title: Re: BPD and munchhausen by proxy Post by: poodlemom on January 04, 2013, 07:10:57 PM No but I know she seemed to always over do it with everything when we were sick. She ALWAYS took us to the Dr when we were sick & we had to get a painful penicillin shot in our butt. Other kids got to just stay home & get better. We always got dragged to the dr & had to have a shot. When I was 10 or 11 my sis (7) and little bro (2) all had to have our tonsils out on the same day at the same time one after the other. They wld wheel one of us away, then wheel that one back, take the next one etc. While all the other kids were having last day of school parties, we were having major surgery bc she didn't want us to get tonsilitis. We didn't have it chronically. I think she just wanted sympathy for having all 3 of her kids in the hospital at the same time. I remember being very resentful at the time. It seemed so unnecessary and like over kill. We cldnt ever just be sick like other kids, it had to be a big friggin' deal. Ugh :/
No laying on the couch watching tv, we were confined to our rooms. I had my first pap smear at around age 14 bc I had irregular periods. I laid there crying with my hands covering my face while I was probed in my privates. I was so young and naieve! My mom sat in the exam room & watched my shame. It was awful! I still struggle with why she did this... . Poodle Title: Re: BPD and munchhausen by proxy Post by: DesertChild on January 05, 2013, 02:38:05 PM For herself, yes. Also making up various illnesses.
For us, no. It was a fend for yourself moment. Here take this bowl, you're feeling nauseous, don't throw up on the sheets. After 10, if you throw up, you are to clean it up yourself. Mop is the basement. Haven't seen the making it up for someone else though from her. She does report sicknesses in other people to get sympathy for herself though. Such as my dad got shoot back pain for a week and was on codeine. She played that up for herself by telling people she knew. Oh and she would do nothing for whomever was sick... . but she did like reaping the sympathy points. Title: Re: BPD and munchhausen by proxy Post by: P.F.Change on January 05, 2013, 05:04:58 PM Sisi,
The topic of Munchausen's by proxy does come up on these boards from time to time. If you go up to the blue menu bar at the top of the page and choose "search" (not the search box just under that, which searches the whole www), you can search for threads on the topic. You aren't alone if your parent with BPD also has MBP. Personally, my mother didn't... . but she did take us to the doctor every chance she got. She is a Hermit and ruled by fear... . I think it was hypochondria that led to excessive trips to the doc. Would you like to tell us about your experience with a parent who has MBP? How has that affected you? Wishing you peace, PF |
