Title: Need to share his success... Post by: Foreverhopefull on January 22, 2013, 06:17:06 AM For the last 5 years, my dBPDh has had a difficult relationship with his psychiatrist. One is very intellectual and the other is very lumberjack. One is French Canadian from a very rural village, the other an immigrant that learn France french (very different). They don't understand each other.
For the first time since they have been having more frequent appointments (they started being patient/doctor in 2007), 2 years ago, my husband came home and said it was a "not so bad on the positive side" session. That's HUGE. His usual reaction is: "I'm never going back", "I'm asking for a new doctor", etc. and he's depressed for days. I know not to expect him to talk more about the appointment until tonight, so I didn't ask questions. I know that when he feels like sharing he will (one of the major things I have learned to do... . wait for him to open up instead of nagging) He was still smiling when I got home and was actually happy to show me my surprise he got me while he was shopping for dog treats (we get them at the local grocery store... . not the pet store.). My pwBPD told me it took a year before he trusted his current T -- and 5 years before he started to see improvements. He's had 8 years of consistent T now, I've known him for 1/2 years, and I'm seeing big improvements! Good luck to you guys. |
