As we try to figure out what happened and why ... . and if there could have been a different outcome, the post on Karma led me to this thought: There is a Star Trek scenario that was used to test the cadets at Star Fleet. It is called the kobayashi maru scenario. Everyone fails. There is no solution. And note that the problem arises when a "rescue" is attempted. Hmmmm... . sound familiar? This is the relevant point for this forum. Yes, we could have run when we saw the red flags. But our "starship" was not made to run from problems. We just need better defenses. We need to not accept their death am i worng if there is any relevance here, I would say the lesson of the test is this: if we enter into a relationship, we need to accept the possibility of emotionally catastrophic results. the difference is that our "training" didn't prepare us for such an engagement. We were not taught about BPD and how to avoid or engage. We teach children to look both ways when crossing the street so that they don't get hit by a car. Maybe we should teach people about this sort of 'crosswalk'. sorry for the mixed metaphores. startrek... . crosswalks. Interesting also that the only way to "beat it" was to completely change the programming as Kirk did... . for this metaphor, that could be the BPD person truly wanting, accepting and integrating proper help and truly changing at a fundamental level (changing his own programming) or us changing ours--accepting the "death" of the relationship.
