Title: Calling all Aussies Post by: Lisallew on February 06, 2013, 04:56:01 PM Hi all,
Are there any/many Australians posting on this board? Would love to hear from any who are coping with a parent with BPD. Thanks *) Title: Re: Calling all Aussies Post by: Diligence on February 07, 2013, 12:02:15 AM Greetings from California.
Warm regards, Diligence Title: Re: Calling all Aussies Post by: Lisallew on February 07, 2013, 01:03:52 AM Hi from Sydney!
Do you have a good support network over there? I find that in Sydney, and Australia in general, it's sadly lacking. Title: Re: Calling all Aussies Post by: Clearmind on February 08, 2013, 02:56:07 AM Lisa - I haven't been to any support groups.
My father is also an alcoholic - there are support groups for Adult Children of Alcoholics if that fits your situation - otherwise you are right - not many groups for adult kids of BPD's. Do you have a therapist? Title: Re: Calling all Aussies Post by: GeekyGirl on February 08, 2013, 03:38:17 PM There are a number of members from Australia here, and more than a few members who want to visit Australia, like me. :)
Clearmind has a good point. If you're working with a therapist already, he/she might be able to point you to some local support groups. If your mother abuses substances as part of her disorder, you might also find Al-Anon helpful. Title: Re: Calling all Aussies Post by: littlemermaid on February 12, 2013, 06:39:40 PM Hi Lisallew
I am an Aussie with a UBPD sister who is doing my head in. I have just started going to Arafmi. Have you tried them they have a support group and free counselling Cheers Title: Re: Calling all Aussies Post by: hadenoughmum on February 13, 2013, 07:48:45 PM I'm also an Aussie with a BPD mum. I'm in Melbourne
I had a look at BPD family support groups around me but they seem mostly aimed at BPD carers and since I don't even live in the same state at my mum I wasn't sure if I really fit that bill... |
