Title: College Financial Aid and divorce
Post by: Forestaken on February 15, 2013, 10:59:34 AM
My s2bx might agree to a sizable settlement.

If she does accept, she will be sitting pretty financially.

However,

I am worried that her $$$$$ will hurt my children's finanical aid potential.

Many disordered people seem to be able to burn through money quickly so having assets briefly isn't a long term issue.  Is she a spendthrift?

From a practical staNPDoint, you can't live your ex's life for her.  If you pointed that consequence out to her, would it make a difference to her?  (I can imagine my ex blame-shifting, "Well, then you pay for it!"  Would talking about it with her be a risk, would it help you or hurt you?

Could you convince her to let you set up a trust or restricted account for the children's education?

She is a spendthrift with my money (when she was here) but hoarded her money.  Setting up a trust for the kids?  Hmm, she may do it bc she loves looking like a savior.
