Going through posts in this section of the board I've noticed (except for staff) most members are relatively new.  Fewer than 100 posts, many times fewer than 50, obviously myself included.

But I'm wondering if there is a reason for that.  Do people not stick around that long or just not post very often?     Why aren't there more longer term regular members in this section of the forum? 

I'm not sure. I've been here for a year and post pretty regularly, but I MUST concur that I have NEVER seen this many new members as I have noticed lately! Also a huge portion of them are people with BPD trying to post here !

Hmm.  That's odd.  I know they actually have a really good forum for help with BPD which I'm sure many here know about... .  BPD recovery.  I've looked at that site and was impressed.  Only wish the people I know with BPD would have utilized it.  But I'm impressed by those that go there to get help.  That takes courage. 

I would think this forum could be a trigger though to someone with BPD.

Well that certainly makes sense.  Individual support.  If I posted a specific situation and someone with BPD told me the other side of it, could be very upsetting.  Especially since they would probably already be telling me from their triggered emotional state.  Yikes.  Not good.

Definitely! Though I do have a good friend that has BPD  who is able to give me some insight on certain behaviors. I even got her to read the book Splitting! The whole conversation came up one day when she was over to my home and I left up 2 or 3 tabs on my laptop of Borderline personality disorder... .  She asked if she could read it, and I told her of course.

She asked why I was looking at it and I told her my ex husband is  pwBPD. That's when she told me about self diagnosing herself and then seeing a therapist about her suspicion.

Overall, she has actually been helpful in some areas (though all BPDs are different)

However I am glad the moderators here don't allow people with BPD to post - because then it would turn into all the other websites (like psychforums etc) This is a safe place for people to post and I like it that way :)

cleo, I think the turnover may have something to do with expectations.  There's so much sadness and hopelessness in all these disorders that many folks may be coming here seeking a cure for their misery.  At least that's the way it was for me when I found this site 2 weeks ago.

It occurs to me that these boards are more about learning what's caused your misery, realizing that you're not alone, and acquiring tools to deal with toxic situations.  While all these things I need, many times over, there is an element of unrealistic expectations involved. 

I imagine that I'm not the 1st to think of a real-time virtual support group.  Maybe it exists and I've just yet to find it or maybe it wasn't practical... .  but it seems there's only so much a website can do.

If I ever recover enough to expand my functionality, I'd like to organize a site that concentrates on the desperate folks out there living in poverty due to the victimization by BPDs & NPDs.
