Title: We're not broken, just bent
Post by: Claire on May 15, 2013, 02:44:33 PM
There's a song playing on the radio right now a lot, and its words keep getting stuck in my head:

We're not broken just bent

And we can learn to love again

I know I'm taking the words out of context, but these are such positive and encouraging words to me in my current situation trying to heal from a difficult childhood. It's true that I'm not completely broken... .  just bent. And I am learning to truly give and receive love.

I love that lyric too. John Mayer's "Shadow Days," really speaks to me too:

I'm a good [wo]man with a good heart.

Had a tough time, got a rough start.

But I finally learned to let it go.

Now I'm right here, and I'm right now

and I'm open knowing somehow

that my shadow days are over.

Same deal, as I think the context is a little different (I think this song was about his relationship with Jennifer Aniston), but these lyrics apply. :)

One of the ones I've been listening/singing to is Sara Bareilles "Once Upon Another Time"

"Just yellow lines and tire marks

And sun-kissed skin and handle bars

And where I stood was where I was to be

No enemies to call my own

No porch light on to pull me home

And where I was is beautiful

Because I was free"

It's so true. At the worst of times I felt broken, but I am learning just how amazingly resilient the human spirit is. I am experiencing a real transformation in my life. Hooray for being bent and not broken!  :)
