Title: She needs treatment but anxiety is so bad can't leave the house
Post by: flameandvoid on August 22, 2013, 05:50:22 PM
I honestly don't know what to do. She desperately needs treatment. She's suicidal frequently, depressed all the time, but cannot leave the house because she has panic attacks at the mere thought of going outside.

I've encouraged her to check herself in but previous employment in a hospital has left her with the certainty that she never wants to go to a hospital as a patient. It's a trap... . she's locked up by her fear. I am losing hope and so is she.

 *welcome*

This is a hard position to be in, my partner has an intense fear of being admitted to hospital and suffers those issues you mention and more.

Does she have a family doctor, is there a visiting doctor service available? Is she on any medications, most of the issues you speak of are not treated in hospital but by GPs and psychologists. With mental illnesses you would have a hard time getting admitted to a hospital even if you wanted to.

Have you tried your local crisis lines? The hospital may be able to put you in touch with a CAT (Crisis Assessment Team)who will visit mentally ill people in crisis.

Aside from your partner, have you sought any help? As it will take a strain on you

Before you can look after anyone else you have to look after you
