Title: Music therapy
Post by: Reality on September 30, 2013, 08:24:34 AM
Hello friends, one and all,

I have been singing for guardian angels and then I thought of how important music is to the heart, mind and soul.

Since losing my dear Will, the agony has been, well, agony.  Trauma.

I have started taking guitar lesson and I rented a guitar.  I cannot believe how comforting it is for me to hold a guitar.  And to strum away.  And to sing my songs and laments.  So unbelievably comforting to hold my guitar.

Then, I wondered if music might be part of the healing process for pwBPD.

Old-fashioned, yes, ancient human expression.  Sounds... .

Musings... .

Hello Reality,

So good to hear that you are enjoying learning and playing the guitar.  Music can indeed soothe the soul and is a positive way to self express.

My d participated in music therapy while in RTC as well as equine, art, and other recreational therapies.  There are RTC's that focus on the arts as therapy.

Music therapy can be beneficial as an addition to CBT, DBT and other therapy models.

Music is such an ancient connection for humans - the guitar may be connecting with all your senses. Balancing out those body-feeling-thinking-spirit places that hold your pain. Hoping this can bring you some peace.

I am going to remember your wording, body-feeling-thinking-spirit places holding the pain.

I do not ask too much, just respite and knowledge that the wave of grief passes, sooner or later.
