Title: Just registered and glad we stumbled upon the site...
Post by: pblsn2 on September 30, 2013, 01:56:54 PM
Our 18yo daughter has just recently been 'officially' diagnosed with BPD after many years of wondering what was going on in her life.  We are now hopefully on a path to at least understanding and one day on the road to managing and caring for her.  We live in Atlanta and are searching for a residential treatment facility within a 100 miles and not sure where to start.  We toured Skyland Trail last week but would be financially strained and our daughter was not accepting to the min 2 month stay.

Welcome and thank you for being here.

  pblsn2,

*welcome*  and I am glad you found us!  I believe my mother has BPD, and I dated a woman who I believe has BPD.  How old is your daughter?  If she is underage, you may be able to place her in treatment without obtaining her permission, if that is something you were considering.

A parent's greatest wish is for their child, whatever their age, to be healthy and happy. When a child suffers from BPD, often not only is the child unhappy and unhealthy, but so is everyone who loves them. This mental illness severely affects everyone, creating drama and heartbreak, while also piling on the guilt and anxiety. Most parents search desperately for answers, and try all the gimmicks that popular culture tells us should work - only to face even more severe rages and acting out behavior.

There are answers though, and we are here to offer you the support and encouragement to help you reach those goals. There are things that can be done to stop making things worse and begin to make them better. A great place to start is with this set of resources:

Take you time with the information.  Please look at the link above 'What can a parent do?'  There is a lot of info there as well.

Hang in there!
