Title: Re-introduction Post by: emmagn on October 04, 2013, 05:58:41 PM I've been away for awhile, so I thought I'd re-introduce myself. I am married, with 2 adult children. My 21 year old daughter has BPD, which seemed to show up around puberty. We been in all kinds of counseling and treatment, including DBT, but now she is an addict (various drugs and alchohol) and is so sick, I don't think she is going to make her 22nd birthday. She is in treatment at an HMO, but she is getting worse. Where do I post a question about residential treatment?

and *welcome* again. So sorry to hear about the illness of your daughter! :'( Sounds that things are spiraling down, so that you are in fear of the worst! To ask questions about residential treatment, this board is the best place for you. This is a great place to introduce yourself: https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=210614.0 Do you have some support from other family members? Please keep in touch, emmagn! We are trying to protect our family members from our BPD daughter's issues because some are in ill health and have other issues they are dealing with. This would really upset them (they all live a few states away). Title: Re: Re-introduction Post by: BioAdoptMom3 on October 23, 2013, 11:12:37 PM I am so sorry for what you are going through with your DD! How scary to see her addicted to drugs and alcohol and so sick! I cannot offer advice on residential treatment centers, but I can suggest that you might want to start a new thread and title it - need advice about residential treatment centers! There are a lot of other parents here who have experience with that!
You and your daughter are in my prayers! Title: Re: Re-introduction Post by: crazedncrazymom on October 24, 2013, 06:33:50 AM Hi Emmagn,
Welcome back to the board. I'm so glad you found your way back to us. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't have any experience with adult rtf as my dd is only 16. I'm so sorry you're dealing with the hearthache of watching a loved one addicted to drugs. I hope you are able to help her find the help she needs. How are you handling all this? Are you taking care of yourself? Therapy can be a lifesaver as well as participating in this community. I look forward to learning more about you and your situation. -crazed Title: Re: Re-introduction Post by: peaceplease on October 24, 2013, 11:31:39 AM emmagn,
I am glad that you returned. What is the length of treatment for your daughter? Ideally it would be great if you can get her into a dual diagnosis program. Initially, you need to treat the drug problem, then the primary problem.(BPD) I have a daughter, age 29, that has substance abuse issues as well. So, I can understand the turmoil of addiction. How did your daughter get into treatment for her addiction? You said that she is at an HMO. Is that inpatient, or outpatient at this point? I really don't have much to offer on rtc, either. I wish that I did. My daughter is not open much to therapy for herself. It is important for us not to neglect ourselves. Please take care of yourself. Please come back and tell us more. peaceplease |
