Title: Alateen for my kids?
Post by: Sluggo on October 14, 2013, 01:58:33 PM
Has anyone tried to use the Alateen for their children.  My wife is not a drinker nor am I.  However, I benefit from the Alanon (for codepency) with my dbpw being the qualifier.

The area here has an alateen group for 13-17 year old and 8-12 year old group.

Has anyone tried to use the group as a way for the kids to understand and express their feelings.

Hi All4BVM

I haven't used alateen for my kid, however I wanted to share with you that when I was younger... high school age... maybe even a little younger... I started attending alateen meetings.  My dad was an alcoholic, and although there was never any physical abuse etc. from it, I felt I needed an outlet to discuss how I was feeling about what was happening.  I really took a lot from those meetings and even met some friends there that I still know.  It was a safe place, and a good place for me to express myself without judgement.  Many of the other kids were in way worse situations than me and I also felt good about being able to help them through their stuff too.  I definitely think it's worth a shot! Good luck!
