Title: Training with Dan Hughes - Trauma, Loss and Attachment for parents
Post by: qcarolr on November 04, 2013, 12:08:44 PM
I am so excited about being offered the opportunity to attend this workshop Dec 10th through Kinship Services, a part of my county's human services department. I have read several of Dan Hughes books, and gained so much from "Brain Based Parenting... .".  My gd8's T told me that the family services area of the county mental health center will be doing a 4 day training in Attachment-Based Family Therapy with him following this parent training day. It is also called Dyadic Therapy.

It is so important for the professionals in our families to get up to date, research based training. I see so many awesome changes in our mental health center.

To my amazement, dh is willing to take the day off and go with me! This is so important so we are united in how we are parenting gd8. She has so much anxiety from the traumas of her mom in our household, and the intense reactions from dh and I. We are commited to changing ourselves to be able to give her what she needs to be balanced and sucessful as she grows up.

I will keep you posted. Just could not hold in my excitement.

That sounds wonderful!

Please do keep us updated on this; it sounds like a very good program, and it's great that your daughter wants to go too!

How is she doing with her Dual Diagnosis Program?

Things seem to be looking up!  :)

Hi Rapt Reader

It is hubby going with me. At least he says he will now. I will go alone if needed. I think I overwhelm him at times with all this parenting info.

I sent text to DD inviting her to lunch tomorrow. She seemed happy about invite -then said tomorrow not best day. So we have plan for Weds.  She did not share any info. My hope is she has appts. at program keeping her focused.

Am resisting urge to contact her except once a week. She actually said "I love you" at the end of her text. Geez, that feels GOOD. I really have to keep out of her life. It is a new pattern.

Ahhhhh... .my wishful thinking

Well, it still sounds like a great opportunity, and I think you will learn a lot. You'll have to tell us how it turned out and what you learned... .take notes  *)

It does sound like you've turned a corner, and giving your daughter the freedom to do this with the help in place by the court and mental health community sounds like it will help not just her, but you too. She's a bit less clingy, no?

Good luck with all of this... .you're still in our prayers... .
