Title: BPD21 Post by: SuzieQ12 on November 07, 2013, 12:17:45 AM My 21 yr old daughter has been suffering with BPD
since she was 14. She has multiple DX's of bipolar, PTSD, depression. She has had 2 acute short stays & one 6 week residential when she was 17. Her bad choices regarding promiscuity & substance Abuse have her now with literally no friends. She has a horrible fear of being alone with her own Thoughts. She threatens to kill herself on a weekly Basis. We have found no strong DBT GROUPS in our Area, Va beach va, or even a therapist Specializing in BPd. She can not see her poor choice Of friends & impulsivity is setting herself up To be treated poorly & taken advantage of, & she Internalizes this to mean she is worthless. Don't know where to turn for help. Title: Re: BPD21 Post by: Rapt Reader on November 07, 2013, 04:00:17 PM Hi, SuzieQ12 & *welcome*
I'm truly sorry to hear about your daughter's troubles; it's terrible to love a child who has so much pain and trauma in her life. I know how that feels; my own adult (36) son was just diagnosed with BPD in April 2013, and before that had all the same diagnoses and symptoms and behaviors that you mention. I know you say that the treatments she has had and now has access to haven't helped; is there maybe a Dual Diagnosis Program in your area? That is what saved my son's life this past March/April (they are who gave him the BPD diagnosis). It was an intensive, inpatient 21-day program that had DBT training and it was a safe place for him to understand himself and why he behaved the way he did. And he learned enough to make him interested in having Neurofeedback (or Biofeedback) Therapy which has turned him back into the happy, optimistic guy he was when he was little. My son's story is linked to in my signature line, in blue, if you would like to learn more. But I can tell you that he was suicidal, a heroine addict and had recently been arrested prior to going to the Dual Diagnosis Center. Today he is not depressed or suicidal, and has been clean and sober for more than 8 months! I just want you to know that there really can be hope if she could get into the right program... .Maybe if you run an online search you will find a program like that near you (my son's was at the Bradford Regional Medical Center in Bradford, PA). Another resource to check into that could help you find something nearby could be found here: National Alliance on Mental Illness (http://www.nami.org/Template.cfm?Section=your_local_nami&Template=/CustomSource/AffiliateFinder.cfm). I hope you can find some place to help your daughter... .In the meantime, please check out this link: What can a parent do? (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=114267.0); there is a lot of information there that can help you. Please tell us more of your story, and ask more questions; we are here for you Title: Re: BPD21 Post by: lbjnltx on November 08, 2013, 07:39:35 AM Hi SuzieQ12,
