Title: The Price of Invulnerability
Post by: TakingWingAtLast on November 25, 2013, 01:07:18 PM
My therapist suggested this YouTube video for me to watch.  As we all go through our process of grieving, we'll likely have a feeling of numbness and joylessness that can be a hindrance to moving ahead and getting past our feelings of despair and loneliness.  Brene Brown, a vulnerability researcher at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work suggests the we Practice Gratitude and take stock of the things in our lives that we DO have.  I hope that you'll be inspired to look for the ordinary people and events in your life to develop joy.

After you watch, perhaps you could list the things that you are grateful about.  Perhaps this will help you see that you are worthy of life and love and admiration for being an ordinary person.

I am grateful for:

My parents who remain healthy despite complications of diabetes and cancer.

My kids who are healthy and working to be successful despite large obstacles before them.

My ex-wife (not the expwBPD) who has compassionately and empathetically been an amazing support as I go through this process of grieving.  She has been a friend for all the time I've known her.

My friends at work who have been there for me for many years as they saw my struggles with the expwBPDgf.  They have been my support for a really long time.

My friends who have reached out to provide opportunities for me to be with them in a healthy way.

My work has been a stable source of finance for me.

My expwBPD's son has continued our relationship and that has been a sign that there is understanding even in my ex's home of the trauma I have experienced.

bpdfamily.com has been a source of tremendous understanding and strength.  There is no doubt that I would have been far more lost with all of you and knowledge of your struggles and triumphs.

What are you grateful for?

My work is also with young people!    They bring an energy to the day that is so uplifting.  Many of them share their lives with me both the good, bad and the ugly.  It's an amazing experience.  Kudos to you, Surnia!
