Title: Diagnosis probability
Post by: genielove on November 30, 2013, 04:54:14 PM
Hi all. After doing weeks of research and evaluating my boyfriend and I are more than convinced that he suffers from BPD. There is finally a name for this hell we are suffering through for almost 5 years now. I have read through here and other websites that treatment for BPD doesnt often occur once therapy begins because therapists are often very hesitant to make this diagnosis. He will be starting therapy soon due to insurance reasons and I am just wondering if he should go in there telling the therapist that he thinks this is what he suffers from and why or let her come to that on her own. I dont want the therapist to feel like hes just some guy who searches on the internet too much and is hesitant in making a diagnosis and therefore treatment is prolonged.

What should we do? How should we approach this?

Hi genielove

Good to hear that your boyfriend will see a therapist and I guess this is for you also a relief.

I would recommend you to step back and let him decide how he will start. Its his therapy session.

And I think your bf will be nervous anyway. So perhaps some validation would be good.
