Title: His therapist is leaving on maternity leave...
Post by: Foreverhopefull on December 16, 2013, 07:35:01 AM
Things where going as good as it can this time a year (my dBPDh hates   ) and we get this big news hit us.

She's at the start of her second trimester, so he has time to adjust and we have time to mellow the blow. I'm not sure what she has planned for him, she wanted to tell him first and let him digest the news. At this point, he's OK and he tells me he's taking it one appointment at a time.

Like I said, right now it's OK... .but I have a funny feeling he thinks he won't have appointments until she returns (he said a few things that pointed that way.) so I'm gearing myself up for a few big bumps in the road as she introduces the new therapist. She's been with him for about 4 -5 years, so she knows how to deal with him.

I'm leaving for a family trip on the 4th of January and I wanted to contact her and try and get her to schedule a session during my trip (keep him from hiding in the basement all week), but she booked one without me talking to her. I guess he talked about how stressed out he is that I'm leaving (it's a trip out of the country and he didn't want to come... .I really tried to convince him to come).

My husband just went through this actually. His therapist was available to talk to him over the phone but I definitely could tell a difference in him after awhile. My husband was suppose to talk to another councilor but it was one he didn't like so he just didn't go. He just started going back a couple weeks ago and he's been so much better. I think him being able to talk to her made a difference. It ended up being a little under 2 months for him. He may have some crisis moments but you guys can get through it :)

Good luck, and let us know how things go.  I hope he gets the support and help he needs while she's away.
