Title: needing understanding tonight
Post by: Eva42205 on December 17, 2013, 07:29:57 PM
Hey everyone, thanks for reading.

I am the (25 year old) child of a mother with BPD. My husband and I live about 12 hours away from she and my father, but we are visiting them for a few days. I feel like I'm unraveling. I usually do fine with my mom, but today has just been really upsetting. My mom is talking about how she is ready for my dad to go, how if he dies she'll keep the house, get these funds and accounts, etc. She has threatened to hurt me (with a gun) before, has shot at someone before, and has held a gun behind her back when she felt uncomfortable with a house worker once. Am I crazy for thinking she may try to do something with my dad? I told my husband my concern and though he was really sweet, he thought I was way overreacting.

Any thoughts would be really helpful

No. you're not crazy. Is there an adult abuse agency you can contact to tell them your fears?

I agree, acting like that is not within the bounds of normal and social services or law enforcement probably should be informed. Is your father disabled? Perhaps he needs a different setting?

If your mother is a BPD, she loves creating drama that makes everyone suffer. I have personally seen this tendency go too far, and I think your mom is there.

Sorry for this turn of events, I know it's hard. But, it's not your fault. Do what you need to to ensure safety for yourself and for family members.
