Title: Brain Scans Post by: raytamtay3 on January 24, 2014, 11:44:19 AM Has anyone had any scans done on the brain of their children? The reason I'm asking is because my MIL just left me a message asking if I ever considered having that type of an evaluation done on DD. It's actually not a bad idea.

You can google it to get more information on it. Very intriguing. The cost was going to be about $3600. We never got around to it and now she's in Texas.

They can show changes in brain function consistent with BPD or other brain pathology like epilepsy, which is useful in determining a diagnosis. Because of neurological history with both my husband & my oldest child, I was able to convince the pediatrician to order it. Everything was perfectly normal. (Looks can be deceiving) I had forgotten about that until you asked this question.
Title: Re: Brain Scans Post by: Someday . . . on January 27, 2014, 11:58:56 PM Yes, my daughter had a brain scan done when she was at Sierra Tucson, which was processed at the Amen Clinic in Newport Beach, CA. The scans were good quality scans with a significant amount of detailed information. The cerebral areas were rated and I would say about 60 areas of the brain were involved. The main areas were: prefrontal cortex, temporal lobes, parietal lobes, physical brain trauma, deep limbic system/thalamus, anterior cingulate, basal ganglia system, cerebellum, and toxicity/jellibeansing. It was a VERY detailed report that showed functions, problems,conditions, treatments and meds suggested for each area. I am very glad that I had the report done, it made a lot of sense as to what was going on with my daughter. My only recommendation is that you have it done through the Amen Clinics rather than an outside representative of the Amen Clinic. One part of the results showed that my daughter had brain damage and when I had a question I could not get any answers.
Yes, I would definitely recommend a brain scan. It showed what was going on with my daughter and how she could be helped by which particular meds or treatments. Now, as far as my daughter agreeing to the treatments is a whole other story . . . Title: Re: Brain Scans Post by: Eclaire5 on January 30, 2014, 12:34:42 PM I am seriously considering taking my BPD 20 y/o to get a scan at the Amen clinic in Georgia. She wants to try different psych. meds (currently taking Prozac and Seroquel, but no longer working. She was diagnosed with ADHD when she was in elementary school, and she fits Amen's theory of Temporal Lobe type of ADHD. Reading his book gave me hope because if she indeed is not BP, but ADHD, her case would be much more treatable. Things have been spiriling out of control in the past two months and right now I have little hope, except for a new diagnosis and treatment.
