Title: Any Australians out there? Post by: yogablue on February 24, 2014, 06:29:57 AM Hi there
I live in Australia (Brisbane) and my 22D was diagnosed with BPD 2 years ago. She recently split with her bf and is a mess and actively seeking a therapist. I don't know anyone who specialises in this field where I live and have searched the web but so far found nothing. I know it's going to be a long road through therapy, if my D can stick it out. This is her journey but I think to start with a T that is skilled in the disorder would be a good one. If anyone lives in my city, I'd appreciate any advice or even where to start looking. Thanks so much yogablue Title: Re: Any Australians out there? This forum has some excellent ideas and strategies and you can safely vent. Title: Re: Any Australians out there? Post by: yogablue on February 28, 2014, 06:21:40 AM Hi Hotpenguin
Yes, it's really great having this forum, with so much information and support. In the past few days I've made some headway in finding a T for my dd24. There's an Australian, Russ Harris, who's developed a T called ACT (acceptance commitment therapy). Have a look here www.actmindfully.com.au/acceptance_&_commitment_therapy He's based in NSW/Qld and it seems to offer good results, it's based on mindfulness and helps BPD sufferers to deal with their emotions and thoughts. He explains his theory here in this uTube clip www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQTvFdbjlxw I've also recently found the ARAFEMI website, which has lots of information. There is also a very recent publication www.nhmrc.gov.au/guidelines/publications/mh25 where you can download the Australian national guidelines for the management and treatment of BPD and contains the latest information. These links are thanks to another Australian who I've found on this site, who has been unbelievable helpful. Thank you. I hope these help, and best of luck with your searching. |
