Do you think that largely everyone that stays together 'for the kids' is a co dependent?

That is an interesting question. I'll have to think more about it . . . .

(I also don't have a good frame of reference since i've never seen my parents, or many other relatives, married and i don't have kids.)

I was an "evil" stepmother married to a BPD. I stayed out of a general sense of duty, but also because the kids didn't need one more adult abandoning or emotionally abusing them. I left after they went to college.
