Title: My Tuirn Post by: raytamtay3 on March 13, 2014, 02:08:52 PM While my DD is away working on herself, I'd like to do the same, and work on myself and my parenting techniques. So I decided that I am going to seek out either a parenting class or a therapist so that when we come back together, she and I will hopefully have the tools we both need to be more effective in our relationship. I did voluntarily join a parenting group last year but came to find out that the parents there were there because they were required to be there by DYFUS (CPS). So a lot of it was centered around how to better control anger and not use physical force... . I still stayed because I did take SOME things away from it such as natural consequence approaches. Anyway, while there is no question my DD has something going on, I too need to work on how I parent her. And I take responsibily in my part for contributing to the problem at times.

Our kids require special knowledge and superior skills... . The more we have under our belt, the better off we are. Do the RTCs that you are researching offer family therapy? Title: Re: My Tuirn Post by: raytamtay3 on March 14, 2014, 07:25:20 AM Yes, they do family therapy as well. They are a family focused facility as they know that one of the objectives is to transition home. Im sitting in my living room getting ready to pick DD up. This is definetly bitter sweet. Im really missing DD. My regulated DD. and am hopeful that she and i will have more of thosr regulated days to come as she is a pleasure to be around when she is. :)

Have you ever tried an al-anon meeting? So much of their wisdom relates to parenting a child with issues. I've learned so much about letting go of anger from al-anon. Finding a good group might take a minute or two. We have tried three different meetings before we found one that fit. I shouldn't be talking like I still go all the time because I haven't been in ages but at the time we most needed them (when SD22 was in a rehab program) they were our best tool. And even if you have a kid that doesn't have an addiction problem, the message of al-anon works. You can easily replace the word alcoholic or addict with BPD. Same sorts of issues... . we started going and were helped before we even knew that SD had an addiction problem. thursday |
