Title: Anyone familiar with RTC's in Maine? Post by: Elbry on March 15, 2014, 08:09:32 AM I am facing the formidable decision of whether or not to put my DD in a RTC. I just can not keep her safe from herself at home. No matter what I do, she finds a way to hurt herself, or try to kill herself, and last time she very nearly succeeded. I am at a crossroads because her therapist quit on her last week, said my dd has BPD and she can't help her, and I need to put her in residential. She gave up after only 5 sessions. HCT was closed out in February because my DD was doing so well, no cutting since October, very few outbursts, no meltdowns etc. Then out of the blue she takes a whole bottle of extra strength Tylenol. So I have to decide if we go back to HCT (although she has already done a year of 3 days a week which is really intensive), look for another individual therapist, or do residential.
I'm sorry I keep repeating myself I am so distraught and worried and my thoughts are just going a hundred miles an hour. Anyway, is anyone from Maine here? Anyone have any experience with RTCs in Maine? Title: Re: Anyone familiar with RTC's in Maine? Post by: jellibeans on March 15, 2014, 04:21:58 PM Dear elbry
I just wanted to get this post bumped up a bit. Have you read the link to the right at the bottom about RTC? There might be mention of a RTC in Maine but really Elbry you should try to find a program regardless if it is in Maine. Good luck... . it sound like RTC is a good move for you and your dd beccause you are not able to keep her safe at home. Title: Re: Anyone familiar with RTC's in Maine? Here is the link to old posts on RTC... . I found this very helpful Residential Treatment Program (RTP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)? The 3 places named on jellibeans' first link are i think considered the best in New England by most parents and clinicians. (Unfortunately, i do not think there is an independent rating sx on these such as "US News" does for hospitals.) I do not know if Maine even has any such place. Many states are shamefully lacking in mental health services. Title: Re: Anyone familiar with RTC's in Maine? Post by: Elbry on March 16, 2014, 07:46:48 AM Thanks everyone for your responses. I know there is a Kidspeace in Maine but I have been told by one of her her HCT counselors it is very hard to get in to. I have meetings tomorrow with case manager and nurse case manager so we will talk about it and I will get their input as well.
