Title: Senate hearing regarding the tragedies some families face just to obtain MH care
Post by: Googie on March 27, 2014, 01:00:54 AM
www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CREC-2005-02-15/pdf/CREC-2005-02-15-senate.pdf

Scroll down to pages 60-3 which starts at 1420-23 on the actual document.

I found this very intertesting and concerning because this was back in 2005 and we have seen more cuts to mental health treatment programs over these last 2-3 years than ever before.  It's not like they can say they are not aware and have not been told about these issues.

It makes me sad for the future of teens (and younger) that struggle to get help so they can feel like they have a shot at doing all the things they see everyone else doing however, find themselves unable to commit to their own lives due to their mental illness and lack of quality treatment at every level.  Medicaid all the way up to self pay without limits.

UGH.

Thanks for this information, Googie  |iiii

I have a personal interest in this because my son (37) has been on Medicaid Disability ever since being bumped off our health insurance and then COBRA because of his age (it was at 25 or so back then, I think).

It was very tough getting it at that time (had to go through SSI Disability first, getting denied for that, but then he was rolled into Medicaid Disability because of that work I'd done for the SSI that was denied), but now he's grandfathered in and I don't see him losing it unless something really crazy happens to the program.

I appreciate your bringing this to our attention... . Thanks!
