Title: How many of your SOs know about this website Post by: formflier on April 05, 2014, 10:07:07 AM Just checking to see how open the rest of you guys are about being on this message board. So far I haven't brought up BPD to my wife... . so she doesn't know about this site. Just curious how others have handled SOs finding out you post on this site... . or have other material related to BPD around. I could see that causing a dysregulation at my house... . Title: Re: How many of your SOs know about this website Post by: ziniztar on April 05, 2014, 05:03:28 PM I don't mention it. My dBPDbf once opened my laptop that showed a post on a local forum. He was a little upset and very ashamed. He has accepted some parts of his condition, but it stills hurts him to hear he needs to be treated different than others.
This afternoon I gave him an example of two similar events that had very different outcomes because I responded differently. It was meant to be a positive 'we will find a way to dot his' message, but again he felt ashamed. He wants to be normal. Telling him I got the input for my altered behavior from a message board dedicated to discuss 'people like him' is too much. He knows I read about it, I just don't tell him where. In cases of undiagnosed SO's I'd personally stay away from mentioning this. I don't think any good can come out of it. I think there's a thread somewhere on how to mention to your SO that you have suspicions in a way that reduces the chance of immediate resistance. |iiii Title: Re: How many of your SOs know about this website Post by: Learning_curve74 on April 05, 2014, 10:56:37 PM I first found this site because my gf told me she has BPD and it turned up when I was googling for info. Much later I saw she had a bookmark to a discussion here. I am very anxious that she doesn't find out who I am on here, so oftentimes I hesitate to give specific identifying details.
I think she'd be happy that I'm working on us but not be happy about specific things I've posted on here. |
