Title: This car situation is making me nuts. Post by: losingconfidence on April 10, 2014, 03:06:51 PM When I graduated from college in 2011, my parents gave me their car as a present. It is now 2014 and they *still* have not turned the title over to me. I live in another state, and right now the car isn't registered *anywhere.* They keep "forgetting" to take the papers to the DMV and that leaves me driving an unregistered car, even though I'm paying insurance on the thing. It's horrible because without the title in my name, I can't even get a spare set of keys for it.
I want to go NC really badly but they haven't signed over the car yet. I really don't want a car custody battle going on after I go NC because that would defeat NC. At the same time, I hate the idea of taking the car and running. This has gotten to be so much of a hassle, and considering I live 8 hours away I can't really just drive it to them and leave it on their curb. Has anyone else dealt with an obstacle like this? What did you do? Title: Re: This car situation is making me nuts. Post by: clljhns on April 10, 2014, 04:17:10 PM Losingconfidence,
I can't say that I had the exact situation you described, but I have had my mother give me all kinds of things that I never asked for and did not want. I did return these things when I went NC. As for the car, are you able to purchase your own vehicle? If you can, then perhaps that will be the best solution. You can then contact your parents and let them know that you no longer need their vehicle. It sounds like they are attempting to keep the strings attached. Often BPD people will manipulate a situation in which they can still have some control over the nonBPD's life. This must be very frustrating for you having a vehicle that you can't register and they will not give you the title so that you can. I would find a way to get a vehicle, thereby loosing the control they have over this situation. Hope this helps. Rooting for you! |iiii Title: Re: This car situation is making me nuts. I actually got laid off last month so I don't have money for a car. My new job starts in a little over a week, so once I get a steady routine going I can look into whether or not financing a car makes sense. I've been strongly considering doing that - then when they visit in July I can give them their car back, then after July I can be done. Title: Re: This car situation is making me nuts.
