Title: UBPDh's employment expectations Post by: empath on May 12, 2014, 03:14:18 PM UBPDh has many problems with working for other people which has often led to him quitting jobs. The latest job he has is a full-time position in which he has to account for his time that he is working (it involves home health care). So, one of the complaints that he has is that he can't just do what he wants because they want him to be working full-time (between 8am and 5pm). He believes that this is an unusual requirement for a 'professional' type job and claims that his other jobs didn't require him to do that (they actually did).
I've been trying to encourage him to try to see the times in his day when he can do the things that keep him healthy emotionally -- he has finally been able to figure it out for himself. I still think he has some unrealistic expectations of being employed (that he would be able to do 'what he wants when he wants' and have tried to explain to him that this is an unrealistic idea. He tells me that I don't know what I'm talking about and pushes the button that he chooses when he wants me to back off. His employment history is predictable -- he only lasts in a position at the most 2 years before he decides for whatever reason to quit (then he claims 'market volatility' for his decision). Right now, he wants to quit his job that he has had for just over a year -- they have changed his responsibilities to include things he doesn't like doing. But, he 'can't' do that because he has other people evaluating him on that area of his life. So, I validate the difficulty that the situation causes him. I just wanted to confirm that my understanding of full-time employment usually comes with the expectation that the employee actually works full-time hours. That is included in the definition of "adulthood".
