Title: A new path to give back to my community
Post by: qcarolr on July 10, 2014, 11:19:27 AM
I have been searching and praying for a way to stay grounded in my recovery from the trauma of living with my DD28's difficult life. This site has saved me so many times, and taught me so many skills. Things seem to be finally sinking in -- more automatic. I am finding some peace and rest. I am able to slow down my the frantic pace of each day. Daily I meditate through contemplative prayer. Radical Acceptance of my DD - listening without judging - being able to advocate for her with jail, benefit provider, doctors, etc. without taking the responsiblity on my shoulders.

There is an organization in our school district that has a vision to provide social/emotional support to parents of all kids. They have a newsletter, workshop events open to the public and promoted through the schools, and in-school coaching, mentoring, training programs. I met this week with the director of the board and the founder of the organization - "Parent Engagement Network". I am going to connect with the person creating a small team to put together data from these programs to show the impacts of what each program is doing. This can then be used to apply for grants, find corporate sponsors, and disseminated to the parent/school communities. I am very excited about this opportunity.

The sad part is I many have to trade my time here at bpdfamily to commit the hours to this volunteer position.

Its lovely to hear from you qcr.

With the experiences you have had and the work you have done on here you will have a great deal to offer to this project.

Your experiences with your GD will also help.

You helped a lot when I first posted on this site and I do appreciate it.

Look after yourself and keep well and I hope you manage to look in on us when you do have the time.

It is good to see something positive come out of your troubles.

Yes, it is good. I have been taking Zoloft for about 6 weeks now, and this has contributed to better health. My fibromyaglia symptoms are mostly resolved - esp the muscle pain and fatigue. It has helped my depression.

My experience of peace is so new - I am in awe. I have worked at mindfulness for the past 5 years -- I had to quit working at it and just be it. Take the time daily to stop and be in the moment without interruption (well most days). Reach out to the new people in my support network that 'get it' - both my needs and the deep, unconditional love I hold for my DD.

I will see how things go when DD gets released from jail the end of September and if I can continue my resolve to give up my worries as I go through each day - to be present and focused and allow the next step to unfold in the mist at my feet.  If you have heard the song "Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)" by Hillsong United, this expresses it all for me.
