Title: I like me
Post by: refusetosuccumb on July 15, 2014, 01:49:04 PM
I find it amazing how powerful 3 little words can be.

I was on facebook earlier and a friend of mine has gone through a horrendous divorce, similar to what I'm going through.  She posted that she's decided that she's old enough to feel comfortable with her own decisions, that she only makes decision with her and her kids best interests in mind and basically f** anyone who doesn't agree with her.  Because she likes who she is.

I like me.  Even when I feel torn on my decision to leave (still a great decision, but still working on getting out of the FOG for good) I know that I did everything in my power.  I had to choose between the health of my children and myself over the health of my ex.  I think I chose wisely.

I like me.  I'm going to make it my screen saver.

I agree they are three simple words and powerful.

Your post triggered some memories. I recall how difficult and lonely it was at the beginning of the break-up and being a bachelor again. I sought comfort and security in the marriage and her. The further that I was detaching I started to feel more comfortable with myself. I realized how unhealthy our attachment was.

Thank you for sharing that refusetosuccumb and I like me too. It's different just being me and not worrying about someone else's needs and taking care of them, doesn't it? I have to love me and not look for it in someone else. I'm in good company now  You reminded me of a quote.

Excerpt
“If you’re lonely when you are alone, you’re in bad company.” — Jean-Paul Sartre

I tend to be flighty at times, even though I am very book smart and intelligent. My ex thought it was endearing at first.  Then he hated it.

Its refreshing not to measure every word, tone, facial expression and action. Im feeling like my flighty self again. I have really missed me :)
