Title: questions about writing my parenting plan?
Post by: jessica1918 on September 14, 2014, 11:58:37 PM
Hello everyone.  I am filling out my first parenting plan and I am having a difficult time with how I should word certain sections.  In the restrictions section I want to add that I don't want my daughter around and alcohol or drugs. Legal or not. My husband and I are completely clean and sober and have been for over 4 yrs. But my daughter's father drinks often and uses marijuana on a daily basis.  In WA marijuana is legal now but I do not think that my ex should be able to drink or smoke pot in front of my daughter,  which I know he has in the past because she has told me that he smokes it in the house in front of all of his kids. And when I go to his house to pick up or drop off my daughter,  I can smell it the moment the door opens.

How exactly do word in my parenting plan that I don't want her around and drugs or alcohol?

Parents will refrain from drinking alcohol or smoking (tobacco, marijuana) when they have custody of the children.

On-line suggestions for wording in a parenting plan:

"[party name] may not consume alcoholic beverages, narcotics, or restricted dangerous drugs (except by prescription) within (specify number): hours prior to or during periods of time with the children and may not permit any third party to do so in the presence of the children."

"The children will not be exposed to secondhand cigarette [or marijuana] smoke while in the home or car of either parent."
