Title: Did you take the BPDFamily personality test? Thoughts?
Post by: Gidget on December 24, 2013, 11:36:33 AM
Wasn't sure how to interpret the results had lower numbers than what were the average.

I think that means you are pretty healthy.  Still,  that is a good point... .  if we score lower than average,  is still outlies  the distribution,  even if it indicates  low probability of the trait. I  might do some investigating to see if that means anything... .

I think everyone has various personality "quirks" depending on their upbringing, life experiences, and heredity. That is what makes us unique. I seriously doubt there is a consistent definition of "normal" these days.

Living and loving pwBPD should probably put us all in a padded room having electroshock therapy.  How do people without BPD in their lives score as opposed to those of us on BPDF?   Are the average scores for people on the Board who took the test or for the general population?

Just curious.  Thanks.

Hmmm, 47 was my highest score. Antisocial. I am not so sure of that one. Antisocial in terms of introversion and or shyness I 'd buy. However in terms of harming others,  I don't think fits. I can see Schizod and Avoidant, my next two highest scores. Both were mid to low thirities. In general I feel pretty ackward in social settings

Anti Social - How about : Insensitivities (big or small) to the feeling of others!

Introversion and shyness - Anti social - doesn't mean that in my understanding, nor does it mean that one is a loner.

Maybe just check the definition again, to assist in getting a better picture.

I get that being a loner is not antisocial. It is just in common usage the term antisocial gets applied to that trait.

Antisocial Personality Disorder - individual shows a pervasive disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others.

I don't see how I fit the above.

I can see where I could be considered "insensitive to the feelings of others " For example, I don't care how the neighbors feel about the car I drive. I am not sure I even care how they feel about me. I am not into people pleasing. However, I actively do not want to violate anybody's rights. And I am not so insensitive to the feelings of others that I would knowingly be offensive.

I 've also done the test. Yesterday. You're this, you're that. What does this mean. Does it matter?

It's QUITE important - what the scores are.

It's MORE important  - if one can accept them and the Self Analysis.

It's MOST important - What we are going to do about it. That's the thing. |iiii

Yep, Now we are getting there. Making sense. Thanks for your input. It's helping me, too.

Just let's consider the following:

How do we really know what others are feeling - Can we really feel their deep emotions?

Can we really feel the suffering and trauma, they are going through? Or the happiness.

Can we even understand it? The emotional swings in feelings (emotions).

I think, perhaps difficult for us, to really answer!

We know what we feel (emotions), because we're feeling it. We can't feel another person's emotion. I don't think!

I don't believe we can figure out about all those traits from just answering 30 questions.

I took this at work today. I wonder if the outcome would be different if I took it sometime when I'm on vacation & more relaxed? Or if I took it on a different day? Today's the second day of me being on call for the annual audit and orderliness is my middle name today.

Definitely agree. Why? Because - you get a different score the next time you do it!

That's quite strange.

Is it the different emotional state we're in, on the day, or are we just fooling ourselves?

Surely, we are supposed to know ourselves!

And the statements are ambivalent.

Like: "People cannot be the solution to my ill-being" (or something as such).

First time I answered "average" (I think they are not the solution but it really helps to have support). The second time I chose "WRONG" as we need to look for inner peace and I was probably thinking of BPD who thinks people are responsible for his "problems".

That increased my score of Antisocial of 10% or more.

Ridiculous.

I understand why I was higher on Narcissistic than anything else - I'm an INFJ and trust myself and my conclusions pretty soundly. =) I will point out that there were a couple of questions that said things like "I need to be better-looking than others" - to which I give a hearty no, not at all, I don't - and then questions like "I like being better-looking than others." Which, yes, if I'm being honest, it is gratifying to be able to notice that, by comparison, I am attractive. It does not make me happy that others are less; but it does make me happy to appreciate what I have.

So, given my bent to see myself as the most important awesome person named Me ever... .hahaha... .I will just continue to make it my mission to help others find out how to embrace how they are the best most important awesome person named Them.

Same here! I'm INFJ too and I came to the same conclusions!

Maybe this test is just a "small test" to give a person "some idea" of our own issues, which we know, everyone has.

Some more, some less.

I think maybe one could then go and see a specialist / professional Therapist to do more detailed testing on any indicators that we personally agree are too high, from the test.

It's actually typical for a psych test as they are subjective questions.

I scored 56% Schizoid, 41 % Narcissistic and 68 % Obsessive Compulsive

Take the test, honestly, for 20 consecutive days and you will see value differences, but its likely you will consistently score high on Obsessive Compulsive.

Especially if you take the test, everyday, at the same time and place.  :)

OK - I'm going to do it for 20 days consecutively, at the same time.

Can you just enlarge on - The test is a subjective one. What does this really mean?

Can I not rely on my own feelings, own answers, own assessment?

Or, does my own brain, fool my own brain by giving "dishonest" answers, because it wants to show me up in a better light. That would be amazing!

Could be - but still quite interesting, to know this about one's brain, or about oneself.

If so, I wonder what this would be diagnosed as - "hallucinations" maybe!

I ended up with paranoid, narcissistic and antisocial but a lot of those questions I answered from the perspective of my manic states which can last a year or so at times so I identify with some out of memory still from those periods.  My psych has never given me a PD diagnosis nor did they see any traits of it except for PTSD states but those pertained to specific situations.

It was a joke   I figured out that a very Obsessive Compulsive person would like to take the test at the same place and time everyday... .

Well , a joke is a joke. No problem.

But still a few days to go, to get to the 20 day mark.

Looking at my own averages, nothing much has changed, so far, so Skip is right.

Obsessive Compulsive  - that's me - With no guessing!

How much did you score?

Way over 65 - That's my age.

So I feel quite good about my age now!
