Title: Baby Steps... but feeling encouraged. FINALLY
Post by: TiredOfDrama on November 18, 2014, 10:57:25 AM
I had to take a break from here, for just a little while. The chaos of working all day, dealing with BPD SD and the drama, along with a variety of out of state visitors, wore me out. In fact, I'm home sick today since I've been burning the candle at both ends for too long.

We also had some shocking discoveries when we checked the texting activity on her phone. WOW... .all night long... .hundreds and hundreds of texts. It hit the fan in a big bad way. Now, she keeps her phone on the same charging station her dad and I do, and we have a rule of no texting after 11 pm. And she knows it's a few mouse clicks to check that. If she gets back into that, we just shut off the texting capability.

We found SD a therapist and she loves him. We found 2 therapists near our home that work with BPD patients and asked her to review their bios and pick one. There was a young female whose bio was "unicorns and rainbows" (her description) and an older man who was pretty much no nonsense. She selected the older man and dh and I went with her to the first appointment.

She's been going 2 times/week and just this week he's scaling her back to once a week.  *)

More importantly, we finally got her on some meds that are most helpful. Apparently the BPD is coupled with Bi-Polar and ADD. Anxiety was getting the best of her, and us. So she now finally has been to a psychiatrist and is back on meds and she is starting to seem like the old version of herself.

The best thing is that she is relieved to know there is a name for what she has, there is therapy to help her, there are meds to stabilize her moods. Baby steps... .

Just wanted to say - fantastic news - so pleased she is wanting help (something my Miss 19 is resisting at the moment).

Love that you were able to take away the phone at night. Such a positive step.

Baby steps are awesome!

Sure... .COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Klonopin  |  GENERIC NAME(S): CLONAZEPAM

Seems to be working very well, and at least it's not Xanax, which she had been abusing. And I had a conversation with the psychiatrist and we agreed that I would keep an eye on the quantities in the bottle, to avoid abuse again.

It was that, or shut down the phone's text/data plan completely, since we are still paying the bills.

The psychiatrist said the Klonopin didn't get the "buzz" that Xanax did, just stabilizes the moods.

He wasn't giving her any more Xanax, thank goodness.
