Title: Did my ex girlfriend have BPD
Post by: besunny1 on November 20, 2014, 03:47:51 AM
How do know if my girlfriend has BPD? She was once diagnosed with it but another doctor said she didn't have it. The relationship left me with no closure.

Have a look at the DSM and see how many she ticks.

You want have an official diagnosis but if the cap fiys for her then she probably was.

BPD is a tough diagnosis, and many people lie on the border (no pun intended) of being diagnosable. The last version of the DSM listed 9 traits, but the current changed it up. Maybe this info can help you:

Article 2: The Symptoms and Diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder  (https://bpdfamily.com/bpdresources/nk_a102.htm)

What is BPD (48 minute video) (https://bpdfamily.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/what-is-borderline-personality-disorder.html)

Can you tell us more about your relationship, and how you are struggling with closure, or lack thereof? Almost all of us here can relate to lack of closure, mostly due to parting ways with someone who fundamentally has a different world-view than we do. Whether or not she has BPD, we can help support you understanding the behaviors and also help you detach, besunny1.
