Title: Looking for help, suggestions
Post by: marjorie on November 29, 2014, 12:21:57 AM
my adult daughter definitely has symptoms of severe BPD. She does not have health insurance, won't go to resources that can help her get treatment, and is impossible to cope with.

Hi marjorie ,

You're facing a though situation with your daughter. BPD is quite a challenging disorder. I am sorry you're going through this but I am glad that you're reaching out for support here. Could you tell us a bit more about your daughter's behavioral traits that have led you to believe she might have (severe) BPD?

It's very unfortunate that she doesn't want to go to resources that can help her get treatment. Has she given an explanation for why she doesn't want to go? Does your daughter in any way acknowledge that there might be something wrong with her?

Many of our members also have children with (suspected) BPD and will be able to relate to you. Take care and I hope to read more of your story later

Hello Marjorie and I'll join Kwamina in welcoming you to our community

I'm sorry you are dealing with the challenges of having a daughter with symptoms of BPD. As Kwamina says, this is a difficult situation for you but you've come to the right place to learn more and get some support.

We'll look forward to hearing more about your daughter and whether she is in treatment. Even though she is an adult, BPD tends to have an impact on anyone who loves her. You'll need some support to help you through this. You'll find some of that here. Do you have other supports you can lean on?

Welcome again!

Welcome Marjorie

I'm sorry to hear your daughter is giving a little trouble right now. BPD is no fun for anybody, the person suffering the illness and those close to that person, we are all affected.

I too have an adult daughter with BPD, she is in and out of treatment, on and off her meds, etc.

I tell you this so you know that I understand and that you know you are not alone.

I suggest you gently encourage your daughter to seek help, I say gently because we, as parents are perceived as pushy and forceful to our BPD children. If she is resistant, I would back off and try again another time.

In the interim, this place is a great place  to come and find support and encouragement from other parents. You will be given suggestions and advice that are so helpful, plus there are tools and lessons on the right hand side of this board, and I totally recommend checking them out.

I hope to see more from you.
