Title: Looking for residential... Post by: kmomma05 on December 21, 2014, 09:41:31 PM Hello... .
I have a 16yo D with BPD/ Bipolar. After 4 inpatient stays and 2 overnights in a CPEP in the last 16 mos, I am on a serious hunt for a residential tx facility. Unfortunately in my area I don't even have outpatient DBT so am likely going to be spending significant time on the road taking her where we can get some help until she can be placed. If anyone in the North East knows of any facilities to either check out or stay away from, I'd be grateful for the pointers. Thank you in advance... . Title: Re: Looking for residential... Post by: free-n-clear on December 22, 2014, 03:47:15 AM *welcome* Hi kmomma05, and welcome.
I'm sorry to hear that your daughter is suffering with BPD & Bipolar. As a parent of a young adult daughter myself, I know the teenage years can be difficult enough without the added complications of these disorders. I'm glad you've found our site, as we have many members in situations similar to yours, and we share with, learn from and support each other. When a child suffers from BPD not only is she unhappy and unhealthy, but often, so is everyone who loves her. This mental illness can severely affect everyone, creating drama and heartbreak, while also piling on the guilt and anxiety. The good news is that there are answers to these problems, and we are here to offer you the support and encouragement to help you find them. You'll see that there are things that can be done to avoid making things worse and begin to make them better. A great place to start is with this set of resources: What can a parent do? (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=114267.0). We have a discussion board specifically for parents of BPD sufferers - Parenting a Son or Daughter Suffering from BPD (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?board=4.0) - and many of the members on that board have experience with Residential Treatment Centres so I'd encourage you to read and post on that board. You'll also find links to many useful resources and articles in the right margin of that board. Residential Treatment Program (RTP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)? (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?topic=126687) may contain information you'll find useful, but our best resource is our members. You'll find a genuine warmth and sense of community among the members on Parenting (https://bpdfamily.com/message_board/index.php?board=4.0) where you'll be amongst understanding friends. I wish you and your family all the best for Christmas and I know you'll find the information and support your looking for here. Welcome Aboard! free-n-clear Title: Re: Looking for residential...
