I have to say no matter how messed up everything is or has been I am very thankful to be free.

I am with you.  As more and more time passes I'm sure we'll all feel this way on a stronger and stronger level.  We have escaped serious mental illness.  For just about all of us, the outcome could have been much, much worse.  And we've discovered BPD -- thank goodness.  I still can't begin to imagine how I would have managed without all the BPD info on the Internet.  It seems like much of the BPD info on the Internet is relatively new, so it wasn't too long ago when people like us were simply completely in the dark.

I'm with you too. That appreciation of freedom is something I never want to loose. To have calm in my life. To make mistakes and for that not to be the biggest drama ever. To NOT have someone trying to control every aspect of the relationship/my life just so they feel safe.  Being free is the best feeling ever.
