Title: communication issue Post by: rarsweet on January 21, 2015, 08:04:54 AM I am not sure if this is the right board, but I am trying to figure this out so that I can coparent and hopefully find a way to communicate with him. I have always noticed his language, his actual speech pattern is so hard to understand, sometimes you can't even grasp what he is saying. It has been hard to explain. When we speak we have sentence structure, a noun, verb, adverb, etc. It is as though his structure, the sequence of words gets mixed up. He doesn't use nouns, it's like a can you guess what I am describing game, he will use adjectives to describe something instead of just saying it. Like instead of saying " child is teething, her gums are bothering her, she is chewing on everything " he will say " she um... .I um... after she eats, she has a bottle, um... .she almost demands it, um... .she always has one... .it's kind of super hysterical to watch um... .she figured out where the lumps were... .so she flips it over all the time, um... .it's part if her daily routine... after she eats, her clothes are soaked, I joke um... .she should have a bib on um... .she's really coming along" I took this to mean he was saying" she is teething because she is drooling all over herself and perhaps she wants to chee on something so badly she will chew on bottles and something he has that is lumpy, perhaps a teething toy? Every conversation is like this and maybe I naively think if I can figure out how his thoughts come out I can communicate better. I worry about how we will communicate when there are bigger issues than just teething.
Title: Re: communication issue Post by: rarsweet on January 21, 2015, 08:22:51 AM Another example is when we exchanged her his first words were" she fought it real hard the first day so um... .we just played and played... .do you know if you tickle... .I always tickle( and he gestures towards her ribs)... .sometimes she is super sleepy um... .do you ever get her super hysterical when she is like half asleep... .I hold her like this um... .tickle her she gets super hysterical... .she isn't always super tired the first day she is with me." I took this to mean he was saying the first day he had her she wouldn't sleep so he just kept her occupied. These are real conversations, I get the recordings from the police department lobby and have to play them back to try to make sense of whatever he has said. Sometimes I feel like I'm an idiot because I really can't make sense of it, but I've had other people tell me he isn't understandable so it's not just me.
