Title: Self Help... What are you reading? What are your favorite Self Help Books?
Post by: Panda39 on February 03, 2015, 09:58:36 PM
Hi All

I'm always on a journey to understand myself and others better, find more effective ways to communicate, and show my love to those closest to me... .just work on making my emotional life the best it can be.

What are you reading about? Zen Buddhism? Love Languages? Intimacy? Relationships? Self-Esteem? Co-dependence? Validation? Depression?  Parenting? BPD? Forgiveness?

I would love a good reading list.  I appreciate your suggestions and ideas... .any topic.

Thanks,

Panda

How to Win Friends and Influence People.  The title of this book should be "Rules to live by."

Never Eat Alone.  This is basically an updated version of the book above but with more of a business / money making focus.

The Moral Animal.  You mentioned trying to understand others better.  This is an evolutionary psychology book -- it attempts to explain all human behavior.

His Needs, Her Needs.  A guide for successful romantic relationships between 2 nons.

I've also read just about every BPD book I could get my hands on -- Can't remember which were better than which.

In an Unspoken Voice by Peter Levine

Healing Trauma by Peter Levine

Mind and Emotions by Matthew McKay

Healing the Child Within by Charles Whitfield

I just finished these which I highly recommend:

Choices: Taking Control of your Life and Making it Matter by Melody Beattie

Love Sense by Susan Johnson

I am reading Forgiveness by Iyanla Vanzant.

And yet I am still struggling to forgive my ex. In the end she is my total opposite to my moral compass. My codependency wanted to save her and make her right (ie like me!). Instead of just staying away from crazy.

I will forgive her... .I will forgive her... .I will forgive her... .tomorrow.

Forgiveness is a great topic, looks like I'll be adding this one to my list.  Trog keep working on it, it took me 47 years to really understand forgiveness.

Here is a good thread I was apart of awhile back on Forgiveness that you might want to check out

Thank you Trog and EaglesJuju for your great suggestions I appreciate them both
