*welcome* We are excited you are here too! Can you tell us some things about your son or daughter? How old are they? Do they live with you? What is your relationship like with them? Look forward to hearing back from you soon. lbj Title: Re: I'm new here Post by: NettieLynn on March 03, 2015, 12:05:05 PM I am here to get support as a parent of a 14 year old daughter who has all the signs of BPD. The doctors won't label it BPD until she reaches 18 years old. I've read enough books to know she has all the symptoms.
She started showing signs of "something" back in November 2012. I thought she was upset because my son, her only other sibling, left for the Army. We've evolved through head banging, self cutting, hitting, etc. The most worrisome part of this for me is what will her whole future life be like? Does it get better as they get older? Title: Re: I'm new here Post by: lbjnltx on March 03, 2015, 05:25:26 PM Thanks for getting back to us NettieLynn
Her whole life doesn't have to be like this. There are treatments available to help her learn to cope with her intense emotions and thinking errors. As her parent you can learn skills also to help her along the way as well as self and relationship with her. Have you looked into therapy options for your daughter? lbj Title: Re: I'm new here Post by: livednlearned on March 03, 2015, 07:17:55 PM Hi NettieLynne,
I wanted to join lbjnltx in welcoming you to bpdfamily It's so good that you are noticing the behaviors this young and paying attention to them, and despite the diagnostic process being put on hold, you are reaching out for support and getting help. Gathering information and learning some helpful tools/techniques can help a lot, not just for DD14, but for you too. People here understand what you're going through and genuinely care. It makes such a difference. lnl Title: Re: I'm new here Post by: Niel09 on March 12, 2015, 02:26:29 AM Hi NettieLynne, welcome to BPD.
I understand what your going through. Be strong... all of this will pass too. Title: Re: I'm new here Post by: busymind79 on March 12, 2015, 07:08:26 AM Welcome nettielynn. I have a dd15 who also has all BPD traits, but is undiagnosed for now. Just thought I would stop by and say hi. I also worry about my daughters ability to function in life as she grows older. I see a lot of promising articles and feedback here on that issue, but it's hard to see it right now. So glad you joined the group!
